Lately, there has been a lot of Philippine Xiaomi users who bought what they thought was a Mi A1 only to realize later that the unit is actually a Mi 5x flashed with Mi A1 ported ROM.There is nothing actually wrong with the ROM itself as it is the same with other ported or custom ROMs. The only down side is there is no OTA update for this ported ROM. You have to flash it manually via modded recovery. Also, the ported ROM is based on the September 2017 update so it is outdated.
But the most important issue here is there has been some Mi 5x units whose boot loader was changed from the original Tiffany. So now we see Mi 5x units with Oxygen, Tissot and Rossy boot loaders. Why is it important to check which boot loader you have on your Mi 5x? There are different ways to flash a Rom for each type of boot loader for the Mi5x. Interchanging these flashing methods with the wrong type of boot loader would result in a boot loop or worst, a bricked device. To check what boot loader you have on your Mi5x, please refer to this thread. Additional information may also be gathered here.
I myself had bought a Mi 5x flashed with a ported Mi A1 ROM and since I really wanted a Mi 5x with MIUI9 ROM,I flashed a stock China dev rom using XiaoMi tool. This tutorial would teach you how to do it. The tool is designed to work across all Xiaomi units with locked or unlocked bootloader. This will work only for Windows 7/8/8.1/10. Let me walk you through the basic steps.
a. Mi 5x with Tiffany bootloader b. a laptop or pc with fast and stable internet connectionc. original Mi usb charging cordd. XiaoMi Toole. and lots of patience since the procedure maybe simple but it is quite time consuming especially if your internet connection is sloppy.
- 1. Download the XiaoMi Tool. Extract the zip file and install it in your pc or laptop.
- 2. Enable USD debugging on your Mi phone and connect it to your laptop or pc and run theXiaoMi tool. Your Mi phone should be on normal on mode when you connect it to the pc or laptop. Let the tool download the appropriate drivers.
